Indianapolis, Indiana
March 12-14, 2010

I signed books and promoted Crossovers, my middle grade novel about a hockey player who wants to learn to figure skate, at the Adult MidWestern Sectionals of the United Stages Figure Skating Association. I also competed on the Bronze level. A few weeks later I took the bronze medal at Adult Nationals.

Litt-World 2009, Nairobi, Kenya
November 1-7, 2009

I learned so much about writing and editing at the Litt-World Conference for Christian writers and publishers from the majority world at Brackenhurst outside Nairobi. It was great to network with authors and publishers from around the world and even see some of my former students.

South Africa
November 8-20, 2009

After Litt-World I returned to South Africa for a couple weeks to visit the kids at the after-school programs where I read books when I lived there. Check my blog entries for those dates to see pictures and find out more.

Park Tudor School, Indianapolis, IN
April 30 - May 2, 2009

I read Toto in Trouble and talked about child-headed households in an all-school assembly as well as meeting with fifth graders and high school creative-writing students. It was great to see classmates and former teachers at a Friday evening banquet where I was honored as a distinguish alumna.

Kenya
A third workshop for Kenyan children's writers in April 2008 brought together former students and new participants. We focused on writing for children impacted by the recent post-election violence. Although participants came from rival ethnic groups, all were passionate about the need for peace, and I was thrilled with the stories that resulted. See my blog for more information.
