Great Opportunity for All You Turkeys

I've had a great time this past year working with Rob Skead on several YA manuscripts. (Not this one.) When he came up with this great idea for using his new digital picture book to raise funds for Feed America, I had to let you know.

Here's what Rob has to say about his new book:

I want to give a big thank you to LeAnne for inviting me to be her guest blogger. She is one of the “things” I’m thankful for this Thanksgiving. If it were not for her editing and mentoring skills I would not have sold a story to Zondervan this year. What a blessing!

As a father and former chaplain with Athletes in Action, having an attitude of gratitude and encouraging others to have that same attitude is important to me. That’s why when I wrote a story about football-playing turkeys for Thanksgiving, aka The Turkey Bowl, I knew I had to find a Give Back element to ensure that the eBook reflected thankfulness and the spirit of the season.

LeAnne was kind enough to grant me space in her blog world to tell you about it…
Food. Family. Football. Three things to be thankful for and that help make Thanksgiving Day special. This Thanksgiving season, there’s a children’s eBook that celebrates all three and is “stuffed” with fun for your family’s iPad®, Kindle®, NOOK® or other tablet or eReading device. The Turkey Bowl, the Thanksgiving Day Challenge eBook features turkeys in a football adventure.

Parents who download the $4.99 eBook from the Apple iBook Store®, Kindle Store® or NOOK Store® will support the work of Feeding America the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, dedicated to feeding America's hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engaging our country in the fight to end hunger.

The Turkey Bowl tells the story of Junior the turkey, who only days before the biggest football game of his life, witnesses his dad, Flyer, get sacked, trapped and “turkeynapped” by humans. Blaming himself for his father's predicament, Junior goes on an adventure with two of the animal world’s coolest super heroes, Super Buck and the Masked Wonder, hired to save Flyer from becoming Thanksgiving dinner and get him home in time for the big annual football game. Ultimately, Junior learns that a little confidence and trying hard can deliver big results, while Flyer discovers the true meaning of Thanksgiving. And the whole family catches on to a new football tradition.

The Turkey Bowl features illustrations by Tom Bancroft, who animated such Disney films as Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tarzan and Atlantis.  Also included is a video of me and my “clones” discussing the value of gratitude.

The Turkey Bowl will appeal to football fans of all ages, especially young readers, ages 8 and up.

I hope you enjoy the story and am thankful for your support of Feeding America.
What are you thankful for most this season? Share and tell us what and why… and you can’t say LeAnne

LH: Thanks, Rob. Not only do you have a creative story line, but you have a creative way to let God use your talents.

My seventeen-month-old grandson loves watching Baby Einstein on his mommy's phone while she practices with the church praise team. I'm excited to see where e-books will go as a new generation grows up, discovering creative ways to use digital information. If you have kids ages 8 and up, check out
The Turkey Bowl. Amazon has a nifty button on the right that says "Give this as a gift", so even if you DON'T have children that age of your own, it's worth checking out.
