Screaming protesters
A US citizen led out in the cold in his underwear
A woman shot and killed
Politicians calling one another names
Memories of the riots following the murder of George Floyd
I don’t live in Minnesota anymore, but loved ones do, and I'm concerned. Not just for Minnesota, but for our country.
There has been a call for Friday to be a day of prayer and fasting for Minnesota. Despite our divisions, I’m looking for things that can unite believers on both sides in prayer.
Here are some I have thought of:
· For repentance for putting earthly kingdoms ahead of the kingdom of God
· For wisdom and good judgement on all sides
· That we would choose self-control over anger in all our encounters, both public and private
· That we would see people made in the image of God, not stereotypes or statistics, and treat them accordingly
· For safety in our neighborhoods
· For safety at protests
· That we would find ways to pull back the angry rhetoric.
· That we would listen to one another and hear the honest concerns of those we disagree with.
· That our leadership would model respect and listening
· For an end to the partisanship that prevents our legislators from working together for the good of the nation
· For immigrants and their families, both legal and illegal, who are frightened in their homes
· For international students whose education is being interrupted by fear in the current situation
· That legislators would find appropriate ways to protect our borders and our citizens without losing the compassion for which this country has been known
· For just and righteous solutions to complicated problems
What else? Please add your suggestions in the comments, and join me and others in prayer tomorrow.
